Apple buying guide for India

Apple is an American company that makes the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods. In India it sells through six Apple Stores (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune and Noida), its online store and other retailers. About a quarter of all iPhones are now made in India. Apple products cost more than most rivals, but they get some of the longest software updates, and they hold their value well.

Premium only. Even the cheapest new iPhone or Mac costs more than most mid-range phones and laptops. You pay for build quality, long updates and a smooth mix of iPhone, Mac, Watch and AirPods.

Service and support

Repairs are done at Apple Stores and Apple Authorised Service Providers. Only these keep your warranty and AppleCare+ valid, so avoid local repair shops. You can check your cover and find the nearest centre on Apple's support site.

Warranty

1-year limited warranty on hardware and 90 days of free phone support. AppleCare+ adds 2 years of cover for iPhone, iPad, Watch and AirPods (3 years for Mac) with unlimited accident repairs for a service fee, for example Rs 2,500 for an iPhone screen, and a free battery swap once health drops below 80%. You can buy it within 60 days of purchase.

Returns and refunds

Products bought from the Apple Store in India, online or in a store, cannot be returned or refunded. If something is faulty, call Apple Store customer service on 000800 040 1966. If you buy from another shop or website, that seller's return rules apply, so read them before you pay.

Buyback and exchange

Apple Trade In gives instant credit when you buy something new. Online it takes iPhones only; at Apple Stores it also takes Mac laptops, iPad and Apple Watch, and some Samsung and Google phones. The value depends on the model and its condition. Products it does not take can be recycled for free.
